Director Bio
April Fricke will be returning for her 2nd season as one of our lead Recruiting Coordinators for the 2023-2024 season.
April’s 2022-2023 team (161 Green) is currently in the gym training to compete at USAV Girls’ Junior Nationals (USA division) in July. She led her team to a 3rd place finish at Sunshine National Qualifier (where they qualified for the national tournament), a 5th place finish at Lone Star Classic National Qualifier, and a a 5th place finish at Lone Star Regionals.
April Fricke is familiar with all aspects of the sport of volleyball. She has coached at both the high school and collegiate levels. She currently is a PAVO National, USAV National, Texas Association of Sports Officials volleyball official, and a personal trainer.
Previously (2021-2022) April served as the Coaching Director for Top Gun Volleyball. Under her leadership both her 16U and 18U teams qualified for USAV Girls’ Junior Nationals. Her 18U team qualified three times during the regular season for JOs and had a top half finish in the National division. Her 16U team is set to compete at the beginning of July and we are wishing her the best of luck! Additionally, April saw a USAV Girls’ Junior National appearance at SA Magic for the 2016-2017 season. Previously, she was the owner and Director of Bexar County Juniors and saw 7 USAV Girls’ Junior National appearances (1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002, 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2009-2010, and 2010-2011) under her guidance including a 3rd place finish in 15 Open in 2000.
Fricke has been a member of PAVO since 2011. She works in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Big 10, PAC-12, Big XII, Western Athletic Conference (WAC), American Athletic Conference (AAC), Southland Conference, Conference USA (C-USA), Sun Belt Conference, Heartland Conference, and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). April has officiated in the WAC, Southland Conference, Heartland Conference and SCAC Championship Tournaments as well as the 2018, 2019, and 2021 Division III National Championships and the Division I NCAA 1st and 2nd Rounds.
April served as Athletic Director of Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio for 5 years. While under her guidance, she increased the number of student athletes committing to play at the collegiate level by 200%, engaged over half the student body in athletics, and secured five state titles.
For two seasons Fricke was the Head Volleyball Coach at Birmingham Southern College (BSC). There she coached the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year and four All-Conference selections. Prior to coaching at BSC, she was the assistant coach at Trinity University where she helped the program to four consecutive SCAC titles, four consecutive Division III NCAA Tournament appearances, and the 2006 Division III NCAA quarterfinals. She also coached five All-American selections and led the team’s strength training and speed programs.
April began her career as a public and private school volleyball and basketball coach and health and physical education instructor in 1995. While coaching she received Coach of the Year honors in volleyball and basketball.
Fricke is a 1995 graduate of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, where she received a B.A. in Exercise and Sports Science while playing volleyball and basketball. She was inducted into the St. Mary’s Hall of Fame in 2006. Her career honors include 1993 NAIA Volleyball All-American and 1993 NAIA Volleyball District MVP.
